What purpose will your gifts and talents serve? Maybe you’re a gourmet cook, a health expert, or a photographer. Maybe you’re a math whiz, a quilter, or a computer guru. A friend taught me to balance my checkbook and many years later, I still thank her. Math is not my gift, but her mathematical mind served a purpose in helping me.
This past week I had the opportunity to exercise my gifts as both a speaker coach and an author. I taught a “Speak with Power, Passion and Polish” clinic and a “Writing about Trauma” breakout session at the Greater Philadelphia Christian Writers Conference. I delighted in helping conferees progress in their speaking and writing skills.
Conferees also became excited about their progress. One conferee in the speaking clinic said, “You made it so simple.”
I smiled and said, “That was the purpose—to help you see that you can do it too.”
For the past couple of months, I’ve watched two people team up as accountability partners. One is an introvert, and the other is an extrovert. Because of their respect and admiration for each other, they bring out the best in each other.
What could you teach your children, friends, or coworkers? What project could you help them with to ease their pain? How could you help them move from broken to beautiful?
You have talents, hobbies, and interests that you could share with your family, friends, or coworkers. What seems easy and natural to you may be difficult and unnatural to others. Support them, encourage them, and lighten their load.
When you help others, you can smile too. Your gifts and talents will have served a noble purpose.
What purpose can your gifts and talents serve this week?
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10: “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.”
Prayer: Dear God, show me the purpose of the gifts and talents you gave me. Show me what person I can help this week. Amen.
