What to Do When You Long for Confirmation That God Answers Prayer

Confirmation? What can you do when you long for confirmation that God answers prayer? Have you struggled to know what to do? I have more than once.

Be Persistent.

When I long for confirmation that God answers prayer, I remind God of my prayer requests morning, noon, and night. I’m as persistent as the widow in the parable in Luke 18:1–8. She kept going to the judge with the same request, “Grant me justice against my adversary” (Luke 18:3).

The judge got tired of hearing from the widow and answered her request. Jesus told the disciples in Luke 18: 7–8, “And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly.”

One for God and zero for the enemy, the Evil One, who likes to discourage, distract, and deceive you into believing God will never answer your prayer.

Praise & Worship God.

What else can you do when you long for confirmation that God answers prayer? I turn to praise and worship. When I first started to praise and worship God, I wondered why I should do it. After all, God hadn’t confirmed that he answers prayer. It seemed like I should wait until God answered my prayer request.

I changed my mind because of Psalm 29:2. It says, “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.” This verse didn’t tell me to worship the Lord only if he confirmed that he answers prayer. Two for God and zero for the enemy.

Confess Your Sins.

You long for confirmation that God answers prayer and may have become frustrated, impatient, and angry. I felt that way sometimes. I told God I was sorry for my negative response and asked him to forgive my sins. God graciously forgave me, and he’ll forgive you too.

Luke 11: 9–10 says, ““So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Prayer: Dear God, help me follow these steps and repeat Luke 11:9–10 while I wait for confirmation. Amen.
