I Will Not Be Shaken

Psalm 62:6: “He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.”

The wild frantic hours of Black Friday in the USA have turned into a Black Friday month of November. The ads in the newspaper and the commercials on TV call our attention to all the bargains. Some people are already camping overnight in front of stores for the early bird specials the next morning.

If it weren’t for the Lord, all that noise and traffic would shake me. He is my fortress.

No matter what happens in or out of my home, the Lord “alone is my rock and my salvation.”

When I think of a rock, I think of something stable and secure, something that will hold me up regardless of the circumstances.

I enjoy climbing the rocks at the local beach. I always look for the biggest one to stand on and watch the waves. I feel safe on that big rock as I listen to the sound of the waves crashing against the shore.

Sometimes, holiday trials or challenges feel like waves crashing against us. In times like these, we know we have the Lord who is our rock, our salvation, and our fortress.

Perhaps your challenge won’t be the Black Friday sales. Instead it will be a family dinner for Thanksgiving. You will have to buy groceries, clean house, and fix a feast for the family. Some family members may not get along with others. Politics and religion may cause heated arguments.

We are blessed to know the Lord. We can say with the psalmist, “I will not be shaken.”

Dear God, help me remember you are my rock, my salvation, and my fortress. Amen.

Application: In what situation this week will you remember that you need not be shaken?
