Americans One Family in the United States in Time of Crisis

Americans one family? Yes, Americans one family in the United States in time of crisis. The flooding and tornadoes of Hurricane Harvey caused Americans to put aside politics and religious preferences.

Those of us who have our homes, cars, and jobs look at our fellow Americans who have lost them and much more. Without regard for race, color, or social status, we pray for our Americans in need, send money, supplies, and rescue crews.

As Americans one family in the United States, you and I see our brothers and sisters without food, water, and medicine. You and I see that part of our family not only lacks necessities but suffers from the trauma of a major crisis.

After footage on TV showed American children at a lemonade stand to raise money for Texas, you and I may have realized we can and must do more for our family members, survivors of a hurricane and its ongoing effects.

Houston Texans defensive end, J.J. Watt, started a fund raiser at www.youcaring.com to raise $200,000. At last report, he raised $15.4 million for Americans one family in need.

Michael Dell, tech billionaire who grew up in Houston, pledged $36 million for relief efforts. Actress, Sandra Bullock through the American Red Cross and Leonardo DiCaprio through the United Way Recovery Fund each donated $1million.

Sixty-three companies including Bank of America, Coca-Cola, Google, IBM, JPMorgan Chase, and Verizon pledged $1million or more.

What about school supplies? Warehouse Live in Houston collected school supplies on September 2.

In Gainesville, FL, a five-year-old boy and his three-year-old sister, wanted to give toys to the children in Texas. Their mother turned to local businesses for help, and they responded. The Red Cross will send a truck with the toys next week, and a Salvation Army truck will send another truckload of toys at the end of the month.

What will you donate to fellow Americans? Money, supplies, or your time?

Proverbs 14:31b: “Whoever is kind to the needy honors God.”

Prayer: Dear God, help me give money, supplies, or time to the needs of those devastated by Hurricane Harvey and its aftermath. Amen.

I Cry to You, O LORD

Grieving woman

Psalm 130:1: “Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD.” Newtown, Connecticut. These two words bring scenes of horror and heartache to us. How could something so tragic occur in an elementary school? Why did it happen? How can we prevent a mentally ill or an emotionally disturbed person from committing acts of… Continue Reading
