How do you remain calm in a crisis? I would soon find out. Overjoyed to be home, I unpacked immediately but couldn’t find my laptop and my iPad. I went room by room in my home and searched my suitcase twice to no avail.
Horror gripped me as I realized my laptop and iPad stayed on the connecting flight home.
I attempted to call the airlines counter at the airport, but it was closed. I submitted an online lost property form. The next day I went in person to the local airport to fill out yet another form.
Two days later, after endless calls and a seemingly suspicious email, I found out my electronics were at the airport in Tallahassee, FL.
I called it a seemingly suspicious email because it came from a home email address. The airlines in Tallahassee confirmed that the person worked for them, and that they did have my laptop and iPad.
FedEx and UPS didn’t pick up or deliver on the weekend. Five days after my arrival, my electronics are scheduled to arrive the next day. I was beyond ecstatic.
How would you have felt through the ordeal? Would you have remained calm, eaten each meal and slept at night? I did, but it wasn’t easy, and I didn’t succeed on my own.
First, I prayed. I also sent out a text prayer request to my women’s ministry friends and an email prayer request to two ministry prayer loops I belong to. Would you have prayed and asked for prayer?
Second, I played praise and worship music and thanked God for all his blessings including the safety of my electronics wherever they were and their return. What would you have played during your wait?
Third, I claimed two Bible verses. Psalm 29:11b says, “The Lord blesses his people with peace.” I thanked God in advance for mega-doses of his peace.
I also claimed Isaiah 26:3: “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” As I climbed into bed each night, I thanked God for taking good care of my electronics and for their safe return.
Afterward, I told God if I never saw the items again, I would trust him to help me replace them and to protect me from identity theft.
I hope you never leave valuable items behind. However, if you do, I encourage you to follow these three steps.
You may have a different kind of crisis, and I still encourage you to follow these three steps to remain calm.
Prayer: Dear God, no matter what happens, help me remain calm and trust you. Amen.
