Do you need a coach? Bill Gates says, “Everyone needs a coach. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a basketball player, a tennis player, a gymnast or a bridge player.”
At the end of this article, you can look at four things a coach provides and know if you could use one.
First, a coach provides accountability.
Most people need accountability to keep going and reach their goal. They can easily deceive themselves and make excuses.
As a professional speaker, I made progress when I met on a regular basis with an individual coach and worked on specific presentation skills for events. He held me accountable for weekly assignments. Whether in person or online, I knew I would face him.
On my own, I could have easily deceived myself and made excuses.
What about you? You may know what to do, but do you follow through on your own?
Second, he/she saves you money.
Years ago, I hired a business coach. She told me step by step the things I needed to do to start a speaking and writing business. I welcomed her recommended resources.
She was right each step of the way and saved me a significant amount of money.

Looking back on her shaky start, she said, “I wish I had hired your business coach. I could have saved myself a lot of money.”
Would you like to save money in the long run?
Third, a coach saves you time.
My writing coach offered three-day intensive mentoring clinics, editing sessions, and an all-day event on How to Write a Non-fiction Book Proposal. I attended the intensive mentoring clinics three times, went through countless editing sessions, and attended one all-day event on the book proposal.
Without a background in how to write, edit, and do a book proposal, I would have wasted hours of my time, faced many rejections, and not known how to correct my mistakes.

Writers conferences pop up all over the country and overseas. Thanks to him, I knew which ones were in the top five.
How will you save time?
Fourth, he/she helps you experience success.
At my first engagement after working with a speaking coach one-on-one, I received a standing ovation. The event planner and the audience gave me favorable endorsements.
I entered an international speakers competition and won “Most Heartfelt Presentation.” That made me an international award-winning speaker. Event planners and other adults from millennials to seniors voted by secret ballot. My coach said several times, “I’m so proud of you.”

Imagine how you would feel if you experienced success.
Conclusion and Next Step
To wrap up, a coach provides accountability, saves you money, saves you time, and helps you experience success
