Crumble in Fear or Conquer in Faith
When I sat in the office with my primary care physician, he had me raise my right arm and use my right hand to maintain my position against his pressure. It reminded me of the hand-wrestling game “Uncle”at the table as a child.
Then the doctor had me raise my left arm and use my left hand. I didn’t whisper “Uncle” in defeat. I screamed in pain and tears rolled down my cheeks.
Off to the Radiology Clinic
After my doctor ordered X-rays, I dragged myself to the radiology clinic as if I were on my way to a death chamber. I thanked God for the early appointment with my doctor and prayed the X-rays wouldn’t take long.
How would I manage to change from my clothes into an X-ray gown in that small dressing room? Kind female staff helped me, I never imagined the day would come when I would feel helpless and humbled.
Praying for Traveling Mercies
After the X-rays, I prayed for traveling mercies to and from the pharmacy. I picked up my prescriptions, purchased a lunch to go in the Food Court, and dashed out the door. With two brief virtual events that same day, I had to hurry home.
I used to enjoy sitting in the Food Court, talking with whoever sat by me, and browsing through the new cosmetics, clothes, and travel accessories. Not anymore because of heat and humidity or thunderstorms, which do nothing to improve asthma.
Once in my cool air-conditioned home, I realized I didn’t crumble in fear.
I rejoiced that I did conquer in faith even when the X-ray personnel informed me I would need to return on late Friday afternoon or anytime on Monday for the results on a hard disk to take to the surgeon.
With the weather forecast, I would return on Monday morning for the hard disk, which was not something I wanted to do.
And yet, I could rest. The Lord had allowed everything that happened and brought me through it. He would do the same for me on Monday morning. I would not crumble in fear. I would again conquer in faith.
