Chasing Security in All the Wrong Places by Guest Blogger Debbie W. Wilson
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God” (Ps. 20:7 NIV).
Before I head to bed, I check to be sure the doors are locked. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to feel safe and secure. However, bolting our locks stops only certain types of predators. Where do we find security when our world is in chaos?
Our nation is experiencing a time of radical change. I imagine you’ve felt the tremors too. How do we rest in God when we feel vulnerable and exposed? How do we praise God for His sovereignty when those in power blatantly thumb their noses at Him, mock His moral code, and penalize those who practice it?
Hebrews 11 lists men and women who became mighty in battle. They lived in dangerous times and faced lethal enemies.
- We live in a culture that celebrates women who terminate their pregnancies. Moses was born in a time when their king commanded the death of every Hebrew baby boy.
- We seek to protect our children from dangerous situations. David’s parents equipped him to fight lions and bears not knowing those experiences would equip him to fight Goliath.
- Our children face radical indoctrination at school. But they can come home and process their experiences with their parents and at places of worship. Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were ripped from their homes, their families, and even stripped of their names. They endured indoctrination without the support of family and church. Yet, they stood strong and true.
Locked doors couldn’t stop the battles they faced. Like them, we face battles bolted doors can’t stop. We need an anchor for our souls. Instead of chasing security, we need the strength only a big God can provide.
Some battles are fought on the battlefield. Others are fought on our knees and in our hearts and minds wielding the sword of truth.
Little Strength, Big God
Little Strength, Big God is a Bible study that provides timeless truths to help you slay your giants. Like the faithful in Hebrews 11, you can become mighty in battle.
Loss and intimidation are not new to God’s people. What if you had to choose between―
– Drowning your baby or letting your worst enemy raise him?
– Bowing before an idol or being thrown into a fiery furnace?
– Compromising your convictions or being tossed to the lions?
– Living in fear or leading ill-equipped volunteers against an intimidating enemy?
The believers who faced these decisions felt their limitations. Yet they found strength in the Lord. You can too. Using the men and women highlighted in the last half of Hebrews 11, Little Strength, Big God will help you turn your weaknesses into strengths to accomplish God’s purpose in your life.
When trouble attacks, you don’t need a bigger God―you need clearer vision of the one true God. Discover the transforming power of a God greater than your Goliaths and live strong now.
