Create a new dream through trust in the Lord. But I want to be in charge. I don’t want to create a new dream through trust. Maybe you feel the same way. Why should we trust in the Lord? What’s in it for us?

Create a new dream: Why should we trust in the Lord?

The Bible says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5 NIV). That sounds like the Lord is in charge, not me or you. The person to trust in is the Lord.

When a dream shatters, we struggle to trust anyone, even God. We might think Where was God when we needed him? Why did he let our dream shatter?

God’s Promise to be with us

God was right there with us. How do I know? He promised this. Read what the Bible says, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20b).

He has been with me through the trauma and losses in my life. When my son and I almost died at his birth, God was there. I went through divorce and single parenting, and He was there. During my bout with cancer, God stayed at my side.

God has been with me through the trauma and losses. #trauma, #losses, #God Share on X

Through the losses in seven months of two aunts, my mother, and my only child, God kept his promise to be with me always. Two years ago, my life-long friend and prayer warrior died, and then Daddy did. God proved His trustworthiness.

Create a new dream: What’s in it for us to trust in the Lord?

Peace in our life
Do we want peace in our life? Look at Isaiah 26:3: “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”

Mama died before Mother’s Day. My only child died that same year three days after Mother’s Day. I mourned the loss of both, but God gave me peace. More than enough peace to give a eulogy for their memorial services.

I could create a new dream because of God’s peace in my life through trust.

Unfailing Love
What about unfailing love? Psalm 13:5 says, “But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.” I’m not perfect. No human being is. I’ve hopped on for more than one ride on the emotional roller coaster of anger, bitterness, and resentment.

Because of the Lord’s unfailing love, I didn’t stay on that ride. My heart rejoices in His salvation.

Blessings

To be blessed is to be happy or favored. Look at Psalm 40:4, “Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods.”

I’d rather be blessed, happy, or favored by God than to “turn aside to false gods.” I call them a tsunami of self-medication: alcohol, other drugs including addiction to prescription drugs, food, a relationship, shopping, or workaholism.

Conclusion and Next Step

In conclusion, we can create a new dream through trust in the Lord because of:
1. God’s promise to be with us
2. The benefits of trust

Journal or talk with a friend about the times God has been with you and you could create a new dream.
