How to Create New Dreams in the New YearHow can you create new dreams in the new year? Perhaps you rolled your eyes at the thought of creating new dreams in the new year. Maybe you sighed and shrugged. Whatever your response, if you believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, I have news for you. Jesus died on the cross for you not only to create new dreams in the new year, but for the rest of your life with God’s help.

On New Year’s Eve, I sat on the couch and read Scriptures about creating new dreams in the new year. I researched commentaries and prayed. I played praise and worship music and prayed again. As I went along, I journaled and asked God for answers.

The World’s Way

Each year, the four seasons come and go: winter, spring, summer, and fall. I don’t want to be like the four seasons: come and go each year.

If you and I accept the world’s way, we won’t change. We’ll repeat the same old habits that didn’t work in the past, and we’ll make excuses. Maybe we’ll blame others. They didn’t accommodate us. They don’t understand us. Perhaps they don’t, but God does.

God’s Way to Create New Dreams

God’s way to create new dreams in the new year is to provide a challenge for you and me. He wants us to manah our days. The Hebrew word manah means to number, to appoint, to prepare, to set apart.

With eagerness, I journaled, “With your help, God, I want to number [manah] my days in the new year and the rest of my life. I want to appoint, prepare, and set apart my days to create the new dreams you have for me. Nothing small out of fear or any other emotion, but your biggest and best for me.”

Imagine a life where you number [manah] your days. No excuses, no blame game, no resistance to God. Picture yourself each day with open hands and an open journal and the desire to create new dreams with God’s help.

Prayer: God, I don’t want my new year to be a repetition of the past. Help me put aside my excuses, the blame game, and my resistance to you. May I embrace your power to create new dreams in the new year and for the rest of my life. Amen.
