Routine? What routine? It will no longer work, and you need comfort. The day the doctor told me he recommended surgery, my body trembled. My routine would no longer work. It seemed as if it had been yanked from me, and I needed comfort. Have you ever felt that way?
I had lined up caregivers for the different shifts after surgery and felt confident once they were in place. However, one by one, they called me or sent me a text to tell me they couldn’t come until later in the day or they had to leave early. They gave me legitimate reasons, but I felt stressed. My plans fell apart, and I needed comfort.
I drove to the kiosk to refill my water bottles. As I parked the car, I looked at the beautiful blue sky and prayed, “Lord, comfort me. You know how I cling to my routine, but I can’t do that for a while. You’re in charge. You always have been. You love me, and you want what’s best for me.” Maybe you’ve said a similar prayer in the past.
I felt the Lord’s comfort and peace come over me. The caregiver shifts weren’t in place yet, but God has never let me down in the past, and he won’t do that now.
When I returned home, I listened to praise and worship. I felt more comfort and peace and called my neighbor. She agreed to fill in the gaps between caregivers.
What one thing will you do when your routine no longer works?
Romans 8:37–39: “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Prayer: God, my circumstances prevent me from having a routine right now. Please help me and comfort me. Amen.
