Romans 8:38-39: “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
“I’ve made mistake after mistake in my life,” Pete told me. He hung his head. “I don’t blame my wife for leaving me.”
“As human beings, we make mistakes, but that doesn’t change God’s love for us.”
“You said that to make me feel better. Didn’t you?” Pete continued to stare at the floor. Out of the corner of one eye, a tear trickled down his cheek.
I handed Pete my Bible and asked him to read Romans 8:38-39. He read it but said nothing.
After a minute, I said, “God loves you, Pete. Nothing, absolutely nothing will separate you from his love.”
“Even my poor choices? My anger? The pain I’ve caused my wife and children?”
“That’s right.” I asked Pete if he wanted to pray before he left my office.
He nodded and told God he was sorry for his sins. He asked for forgiveness and thanked God for his love. Pete left my office with a smile.
Dear God, please help me understand how much you love me. Amen.
Application: In what way will you acknowledge God’s love for you this week?
