WHEN YOUR PLANS CHANGE

You can get excited and plan an entire day around a special event in your neighborhood, church, or community.

For a special event at the church where I belong, the staff and members had plans for an outdoor cookout, playground activities for the children, an early church meeting with a ribbon-cutting of the new facility, and a prayerful guided tour of the new facility.

The weather had been beautiful, warm, and sunny for days. Lots of pollen but still warm and sunny. Excitement built day by day.

Weather Changes

Around 2:00 am that Sunday, I bolted out of bed at the sound of thunder. I peeked out the window and saw lightning. That wasn’t all I saw. Rain gushed horizontally and vertically. So much for the outdoor celebration. Quick emails and cooperation among staff members and volunteers demonstrated their flexibility.

That weather change meant everything would move inside the building. Hot dogs and hamburgers would be grilled in the kitchen and brought out to the multipurpose room.

Flexible staff and other members made decisions as to where and how to place the side dishes members would take to compliment the grilled items.  Children played indoor games in their classrooms.

Health Changes

My eyes burned and itched from the drastic weather change. A stuffy nose, sneezing, and a sore throat showed up uninvited. Those health symptoms changed my day. I wasn’t going anywhere.

At least a few days earlier, I had reserved a day to renew all my prescriptions to treat those spring symptoms, but I missed all the festivities with church family and friends. I was grateful for the meds to take personal care of my health and thank the Lord for the live stream of the morning church service.

Summary

Weather and health changes can alter the best plans from one moment to the next. You and I can do all within our power to accommodate the situation and be thankful for the ability to do so. Not all churches have the facilities indoors to make the switch and still enjoy fellowship.

Flexibility would lead to feeling better. #Flexibility, #Self-care Share on X

At home, I had plenty of water, Pedialyte®, one banana, rice, and toast. I also had the new pans with a ceramic inside to prepare or warm food that is a healthier choice for me. Flexibility would lead to feeling better rather than to a pity party.

Prayer

God, thank you for all you’ve blessed the church with to continue the celebration indoors. I appreciate all you led me to purchase during the week and the friends I ate lunch with before sickness invaded my body and kept me home. It made sense to stay home because I didn’t have the strength to drive to church and didn’t want to cough and sneeze all over others and the food. I thank you in advance for healthier days ahead. Amen and amen.
